Assessing the Loran Cycle Confidence Algorithm
نویسنده
چکیده
In 2002, Peterson, et. al. proposed using redundant signal measurements to provide the necessary confidence that the cycles are identified correctly. The proposal used a weighted sum squared error (WSSE) statistic as a metric to determine if the correct cycle on every signal used has been selected with adequate probability. The method increases availability by using redundant information to provide a better estimate of cycle confidence.

Analysis of Noise and Cycle Selection in a Loran Receiver
Thermal and atmospheric noise distort envelope measurements in a Loran receiver, and may cause the receiver to select the wrong cycle during signal acquisition. A cycle error would persist during signal tracking and result in a ranging error of 3,000 km. The probability of a wrong cycle selection is dependent on the signal-to-noise ratio and on the algorithm used in signal acquisition. In this...
متن کاملThe Loran-C Cycle Identification Problem
Current techniques for cycle identification in Loran-C radionavigation receivers are reviewed and compared. A new technique is presented for use in hard-limiting receivers. It is based on the widely used analogue “half-cycle peak ratio” technique, from which it differs by being entirely digital; no additional analogue signal processing or other hardware is required. Drawing on recent advances, ...

The Loran coverage availability simulation tool (LCAST) was initially created for the 2004 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Loran technical evaluation report. The tool incorporated the then current models, algorithms and figures of merit being developed for the evaluation report. Models for noise, noise mitigation, signal strength, additional secondary factor (ASF), and envelope to cycle d...

Loran, is an attractive candidate to provide backup services for GPS because of its complementary RNAV, stratum 1 frequency stability, precise timing, and data channel capabilities. However, for Loran to be accepted as a backup navigation system for aviation, it must meet the accuracy, availability, integrity, and continuity standards for Required Navigation Performance 0.3 (RNP 0.3). The Loran...
